Although this device has gone end of life, the latest version has a nice feature that if there are no drives in the bay then the fan does not run. This is significant when you have 3 of these bays in each of your towers :)The EZ-tray is compatible with 1 bay and 3 bay devices as well , so I can swap any of my discs between 4 machines and store "backup" drives in a safe place as well. I use these to hold 5 drives in a raid 5 arrangement and they are solid as a rock. Mind you I use enterprise grade drives with a 5 year warranty.I also use an icy dock adapter to mount SSDs in the module as well. Note the hot swap facility is not a function of this module but the 3Ware raid card to which it is attached.

La ventola interna non é delle migliori per livello di rumore ma sostituita con una Noctua è come se non ci fosse. Le levette per l' espulsione dei drive non sembrano solidissime ma per ora reggono. Velocità SATA nella norma!

Avec 5 disques durs en un espace minimum, sans ventilation ça chauffe un peu, heureusement un ventilo est là :)Pour le reste, rien à dire, c'est parfait, tous les disques durs sont reconnus à l'identique de leur profils précédent (sans le boitier). Il manquerait peut-être juste un voyant pour signaler en cas de chauffe des disques.

Well then, hello - what are you waiting for.Do you wanna tinker with different operating systems, but you don't wanna muck around with partitioning or boot problems? Well then, problem solved.How about a home-grown backup solution? Hello, 5 hot-swappable drive bays, right in the front of your rig.Yea, it's like that - the list can keep going.This thing supports 3.5" as well as 2.5" drives (with the Icy Dock EZConvert - or you can do it homegrown like I did). It requires three SATA-style power connections and will accept up to five SATA-style interface connections - one SATA connection for each of the five bays.SATA is natively hot-swappable, so once you install this thing and move your drives to this bay, you'll never need to open your case again - not for working with your storage, at least.I just bought my second unit for a new rig I'm building - I don't know how it took me all these years to find this thing, but I won't build a new tower without something like this from here-on out - no chance, no way.Seriously - 5 drives in 3 bays, instant hot-swap access to your storage, has a fan on the back to keeps things cool - just fricken buy it already!All kidding aside, it's awesome, it makes dealing with your rig's storage incredibly easy, and it just works!

koelt zeer goed de harddisken

Is nu een dikke maand in gebruik en ik moet zeggen dat het de harddisken goed koelt.Alles is van metaal waar de harddisken in gaan qua frame, dus dat zorgt al voor extra warmteafvoer.Wel op standje HALF gezet zodat het "kabaal" van de ventilator getempert wordt want het is geen stille.Het is GEEN full-swap, je zult de server uit moeten zetten om de harddisken te verwijderen of een 'schakel-tool' moeten gebruiken of de spanning van de harddisken af te schakelen (is verkrijgbaar, niet aangeschaft).

This is cage uses an older design where drives are placed into trays and inserted/removed with the tray. I actually prefer this to newer designs where the disks just slide in and a peg pushes them out since those tend to jam with a full set of drives. Plus most of them use plastic parts which can break. All the cages and handles here are metal with just a plastic shroud.The product screenshots of the drive trays are a little different (maybe older revision?) from the ones I got, which in addition to the side rails also have a bottom plate so you can in fact mount 2.5" drives (SSDs) with no problem.One drawback, and this probably applies to most if not all 5 in 3 type hot-swap bays, is that they run the drives on the hotter side. With normal NAS loads (file share, streaming, auto backup), my old WD Red drives (CMR drives purchased long before the SMR debacle) ran at ~40C, while running them full-tilt during a 4h ZFS scrub pushed the max temps to 46-48C.This is in contrast to something like a Node 304 that I'm moving from which can keep the drives at a chilly ~30C even at high loads. (See second screenshot of the temp log before migration, during scrub and during normal use) That said I consider anything less than 50C to be "fine". Also, these temps are with a low-speed aftermarket fan running at the "low" jumper setting to minimize noise. The drives themselves are louder than the fans with this setup.Overall, this is well worth the price. It's not anything spectacular but its a decent piece of kit that is solid and works. If I had to add more capacity, I'd probably go for this cage again.

Dead on arrival: fan doesn't spin, no load on disk.That aside, this whole thing looks solid at the first glance, but its not particularly useful.- There is no opening on the cage to accommodate case guide rails, so you have to bend or cut the guide rails on case in order to fit this cage. (can you believe that's not actually the reason for return?)- Fan is much smaller than other units, so even though I didn't actually hear it, I can imagine it to be loud.- The connectors on the back side are all over the place - on three of the four sides. Again, not very convenient for installation (that's after you bent the rails of the way).Rosewill 3 x 5.25-Inch to 4 Drive Cage on the other hand is not as pretty, but much more functional.Update:Attempted to return, seller refused.It took me over 30 days to get all the parts, so I didn't find out it's dead until after I powered it on. ICY DOCK declined return (yes, it's my fault on the timing, but come on! Stand by your product!)
