I know there are a lot of negative reviews and was thinking some of those could be discounted, well, not this time. So, the other negative reviews, believe them.Pros:- Looks decent in the package, on the desk, it looks like a gray mailbox.- I'll try to say a second nice thing, but can't think of any.Cons:- The enclosure amplifies the noise of a magnetic disk. I decided to use all solid state disks.- If you are looking for a single enclosure for multiple disks, it is that. Expect a single operation to be slow, and a second concurrent operation will cripple it.- If you have a Mac, this product is an afterthought. It is constantly dropping connections and you can't rely on it for Time Machine backups or really any continual file sharing activity on another networked Mac. This is not an Apple problem, this is a cheap enclosure problem.- If you want a true USB-C device, you need a USB-C to USB-C cable. So expect to spend more on a cable to connect this. Seriously, these people are trying to cripple their own products.- It's cheap plastic and aluminum. Will it last? I suppose if you don't drop it.- If you think it will run better on Windows, it runs like trash on Windows too.Happily I haven't lost data on it yet. But after a few hours of using it, I am very done with this product. It's going back. Save money and use multiple enclosures that are docked. It will actually work for you.

Good device to re-use old drives.

Bought this to build a JBOD array using some old-ish but perfectly OK low hours SATA disks. My primary use is to temporarily store video files for editing and movie making so my main requirement was to have as large a drive as possible. I used Windows Storage Spaces to create a Spanned Volume of 1.78 TB using a combo of 5 disks of various sizes. It mounts as a single drive and transfer speeds are great. I'm seeing write speeds of 90-100 MB/s average which is perfect for video editing. One word of caution. I just wanted to see if the device would support a Windows Storage Spaces RAID config just in case I ever needed and the results were not great. Copying files repeatedly failed so I think this device is best used as JBOD only. Really pleased. It's a really useful video editing workflow device and a fantastic way to re-cycle old drives. Just don't use a spanned array for anything you don't have backed up somewhere else!

It will work flawlessly for about a week or two, then start struggling two weeks after that. After about a month, it starts making this horrible buzzing and clunking sound and you're lucky if you can access any data on any drive in a reasonable time frame.I've purchased 5 of these now, and every one of them has died the exact same way. Buzzing, clunking, then dead. One of these even killed a HDD of mine. Completely corrupted it.Avoid this brand. The cheap controllers they use on there can barely handle the load they claim it can, and has potential to mess up your drives!How fortunate for Amazon that every time one of these dies, it's a week or two outside of their return policy.Bah.Spend more money on a different brand. These aren't it. The money I've wasted on these I could have bought two of the Sabrents I had my eye on and been set. I should have known better though, so if I'm mad at anyone for the waste of money, it's me. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Solid metal enclosure. Has a power switch and universal (plastic) trays that work with 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives. Basically plug g in the trays, plug into your PC and go.Two minor things — there is no light to indicate the enclosure has power (but you can feel the airflow from the fan). The screws for the trays were not quite right to make the drives completely immobile. I used screws from the enclosures I was moving from to get more secure (but realistically, it is not like this thing is portable and the drives are in danger of shaking loose or coming off the trays).The front easy easy to open and close, and the trays are easy to install and remove.I bought this because all four of me Seagate external USB hub drives have been losing connectivity randomly as the USB- type B sockets no longer maintain solid contact. Having this unit with a solid USB-c connection has saved me from wondering when my drives will cut out,

It works most of the time. Can't complain too much for the price. There are better units out there.Pros:Drive trays are nice and fit well.Drive click into place.All drives connect, nothing disconnects during transfers. Speeds are good.Cons:Sometimes, it shuts down on startup if full of disks. Seems like the power adapter doesn't provide enough power for all the drives powering on at once. Add 3 or 4 drives, let them power on, then add the last one.Door is pretty flimsy.Unit sometimes makes this extremely high pitched screech.

As my desktop pc only has 1 usb3 port, every time I needed to connect a different external hard drive , it was time consuming. Now I have 5 hard drives connected all the time through 1 usb and it is silent and cool and reliable. Wish I had bought one years ago

does the job

I had one of these on an old pc acting as a backup on my network. Nice metal case, no problem with putting objects /books whatever on top. The door catch can be a bit iffy, but that is unimportant. The flimsy plastic hdd trays come with plenty of screws, but it would be trivial for these to clip in place. Anyway, I changed my main pc, and at the same time my external sata storage space drive system failed, so I bought another of these units, and dealing with individual drive letters, which is fine (and safer). Fast enough for everything I do.
