Update: After upgrading from S9+ to an S23 phone the auto Lock/Unlock (geofenced) works perfectly! It may have been an Android issue. The last S9+ software update was last March (2022) so maybe that was the issue. It is so handy when your hands are full to just lean your elbow against the lever and push the door open with your hip. If you set the software to notify you, the app tells you when door opens/closes, locks/unlocks with a tone and can display each sequence on your phone so you can see what state the lock is in and/or if someone left it open.Original: When it functions properly it's great. However many times it won't hands-free unlock at all. It will go for a couple weeks just fine then it just quits. You can always punch in your code but nobody spends this much money for a lockset that can only do that. I don't know if they are continually changing the program / updates at Yale or whomever but when it quits working nothing will make it work again - not changing the settings, not pulling the batteries out and re-installing, not removing and re-installing the program, nothing. And then after a week, a day, who knows... it just begins working again.

I installed this lock on my house/garage door on Tuesday. I thought I had entered a master code on the keypad. I accidentally locked myself out of my house yesterday. Had to call a locksmith. It took the locksmith around an hour to unlock this lock. I think I bumped the lock (gear) button on my way out of the house and that is why I locked myself out. I would like the lock better if the “gear” button and the checkmark button were reversed. Locksmith said this is one of the most secure locks he has seen. He programmed in three codes for me. I have not set up the WiFi yet and will add more when I do. This lock was easy to install as I did it in under an hour. Looks nice on my door. Set up the WiFi today. It was a breeze. Locks and unlocks with my and my husbands iPhones. Apple Watch works with the app so can unlock the door with my watch. I did not put on the piece that recognizes if the door is open. This is an update to this lock. I am getting disgusted with this lock. The three codes programmed by the locksmith just make the lock beep and then flash so they no longer work. When it works it works great but it needs a software update badly. I have spectrum wifi and this bridge has a terrible time connecting to my spectrum wifi. It took me more than five minutes to get into my house today. The bridge is about eight feet from the lock and it does not connect even being this close. I usually use my app on the Apple Watch to unlock but today it just sat and blinked at me. I had to pull out my phone, go to the app, waited for the app to show me that it had discovered the lock and then finally unlock. Considering I paid almost $200 for this lock it should be quicker than that. I do have a key in the cabinet now and did have to use it one other time to get into my house. My husband has junk piled in front of the cabinet so it is a pain to use the key. Yale please get your IT people on this.

Have owned this lock for over two years, and it constantly goes offline. Sometimes several times per day. Have tried three different routers and multiple locations for the router and the bridge, and different router settings, and nothing fixes the issue. After going back-and-forth over the years trying different things, Yale asked me to BUY a new bridge for $80. After reading the reviews about the bridge, I decided not to invest more money into this lock. Look elsewhere if you want one that is dependable.

A lengthy review but many things you should know before purchasing. This lock has numerous issues and you don’t know that until you try to set it up. I purchased this specifically for its stated Apple HomeKit compatibility, which I’ll discuss later. Initial installation is fairly straight forward but here is the first design flaw: description states cannot be used with deadbolt. I took a chance and found out that the unit has a high offset that interferes with the deadbolt above on a standard leverset/deadbolt door prep. I was prepared to cut the bottom of the inner escutcheon plate of the deadbolt to get it to work. However, I have a Schlage pushbutton lock on this same door that had no interference with my deadbolt. Shame on Yale for designing something without sufficient space to accommodate a deadbolt in a standard door prep.Installation otherwise was fairly straightforward. This unit comes with a Wi-Fi module that installs within the lock and another bridge type module that plugs into a 120vac outlet. Some things you’ll read will lead you to believe you need both, however I confirmed with Yale tech support that only the module in the lock is needed. All of the instructions missed that another screw is required in the upper part of the rear (inside) backing/mounting plate into the door so that the top of that plate pulls in snug against the door.Setup of the initial master code isn’t as listed in the instructions supplied with the lock nor online via the Yale app. I found the correct installation instructions in the BILT app. Once that was created, I was able to finalize installation and registration of the lock in the Yale app.The Yale app is also the way you connect it to your Wi-Fi, which I did and received confirmation of connection from the app. However, when I called Yale tech support to ask a few questions on an unrelated matter, they said that it wasn’t online. I then went through the process a second time and once again, received confirmation of connection.Features: if you want the lock to relock after you use a code to open it, you have to program it to auto-relock. This means that without that selected, you use the code and the door unlocks until you manually relock it. If the auto-relock is selected in the programming, I set mine to 10 seconds but this is adjustable, it will automatically relock after you enter you code. The problem with that is if you wanted to leave the door unlocked, you might think that you can rotate the thumb turn on the inside, as you would with a standard entry function lock. However, once you do that, it will relock after the expiration of the auto-relock time. The only way to toggle this back and forth is to do it through the Yale app which is foolish. This lock beeps very loud and via the Yale app you only have two options, High and OFF. It’s also a very annoying beep, it sounds like the product code hand scanners at Home Depot when they don’t read something correctly. Completely annoying so much so that I turned it off.Access codes: you can program codes into the lock with the keypad or via the Yale app. However, any codes you program in via the keypad on the lock, aren’t recognized by the Yale app. Essentially, they are invisible. This also means that the only way to remove a code programmed in via the keypad on the lock is to use the keypad to remove it. Another cumbersome clunky feature.HomeKit Integration: the one thing that the Yale did do fairly nicely was to assist in adding this lock to HomeKit. However, it doesn’t work correctly. It will show up in HomeKit and provide a status but you can’t actually lock or unlock the door via the HomeKit app, which is why I wanted the integration in the first place. The tech support person said I needed to remove it, factory default the lock, connect it back to Wi-Fi and re-add it to HomeKit. I had already added it twice to HomeKit and was unsuccessful with locking and unlocking both times despite the fact that I could see it in HomeKit. It was at this point, after all of the other issues and the failure of this to work correctly with HomeKit, I decided to returned the lock.Seems like there was minimal thought put into this product and functionality and it’s not ready for the integration to HomeKit as they claim. I would not recommend purchasing this lock.
