This Staples Desktop Calculator is a good basic calculator. It will do most of the functions expected of a calculator at this level, but not fancier functions like floating decimals or automatic decimals for cents.I like that the buttons are very clearly marked with white on the black keys, making visibility great even for older eyes. The display panel can pivot up from its folded-flat position for the best viewing angle. The 'solar' panel requires very little light to work, and should give no problem in any normally lighted room.Apparently there is an LR54 battery inside, and the instruction sheet devotes an entire panel to warnings about it, but there does not appear to be any way to replace it other than using a tiny Philips screwdriver to disassemble the calculator. Based on my experience with other 'solar' calculators, it will probably never be an issue.All in all, this will be a good basic calculator to keep in the kitchen for the occasional need.

The calculator was shipped quickly and came overnight. It is a basic desk calculator with solar batteries- this it takes very little light for it to become operational. It will also work for a while without light as I assume it has an internal rechargeable battery- I did not see a lid in the back to replace it, so it must be built in. Very convenient.Operation is as expected- the buttons are large, so easy to press and they are quiet when operated.The calculator measures 8x6” roughly so it is not a pocket one, but as mentioned it is a desk calculator. As such it has small rubber feet so it doesn’t slide around when operated.Screen is large and easily readable with excellent contrast. The viewing angle is somewhat narrow, but again- good enough.Overall, this calculator appears to be precisely what it claims to be- a user friendly desk calculator at great price point.

Works perfectly and is quiet to use. No annoying tapping noises. The buttons do not stick. The buttons are large enough and well spaced enough to use quickly and smoothly. This calculator has a backspace, which is a huge upgrade from my last calculator. So if you make 1 mistake you can hit the backspace and keep going and not have to clear the entire thing and start over. It saves time and helps me to be efficient at work. The display is large and clear and easy to read. There is no backlight, but it seems to be fairly reflective because my office overhead lights seem to shine and light up the display. It is solar powered and my office lights are plenty to make it function. The display is angled slightly, so I can keep the calculator flat on my desk and still read the display. I also really like that there is a "00" button which makes it a lot faster when adding larger checks. There are 3 memory keys which could be useful to someone but I do not find as useful. The bottom has grippy little pads so the calculator does not slide around your desktop, which I love! My last one must have worn out because it was constantly sliding all around. Such a great improvement! It has an auto shut off and turns back on as soon as you tap any button.
